Some of the best places in Cambodia

The best places to visit in Cambodia

Are you planning on going to Cambodia anytime soon! You definitely should! It’s one of Southeast Asia’s most beautiful and fascinating countries where you can find impressive temples, beaches, gorgeous landscapes and exciting cities. If you’re lucky and have one month to spend in the country, there’s lots of things to see here. Here are the best places to visit in Cambodia

Siem Reap

Let’s start with the most famous place in Cambodia. Perhaps you’re not particularly familiar with the name Siem Reap, but how about Angkor Wat? It’s one of the world’s most important landmarks and has been dubbed as one of the new Wonders of the World. The Angkor Wat consists of impressive religious monuments and is a must-see when you go to Cambodia. Although you could visit the main temples in one day, there’s also the option of a two or three day pass as well. This will allow you to visit all the temples if you’d like to, in a slower pace. One of the highlights is to see the sunrise in Angkor Wat, the main and biggest temple.

Battambang

The second most populous city in Cambodia that has just started to boom. These days, you can find plenty of backpackers who are looking to get off the beaten track. Battambang is only a 4 hour drive away from Siem Reap. The city is best known for its unique bamboo trains, the underground caves where you can see hundreds and hundreds of bats, and the Killing Cave, with a dark past. The city is full of charm and French colonial buildings as well so it’s equally a delight to just wander around and explore.

Koh Rong / Koh Rong Samloem

If you want pristine white sand beaches, skip Sihanoukville and go straight to the Koh Rong islands instead. Koh Rong is known as the more wild, party island, while Samloem is known as being the quiet one. Depending on which mood you’re in, you can pick and choose. Both of them have beautiful beaches and an atmosphere that’s unbeatable. You can’t help but fall in love with the islands in Cambodia. If you really want to find a quiet beach, go to Samloem and hike through the jungle for 40 minutes until you reach “Lazy Beach”. It’s one of the best!

Kampot

Known for its splendid nature, Kampot is a sure favorite amongst travelers and expats. It’s a sleepy little town packed with tons of things to do. Visit the Phnom Bokor National Park, the Old Catholic Church, Popokvil Waterfall (one of the main attractions) or go kitesurfing. Kampot is a place for nature lovers or for people who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the big cities in Cambodia.
